Before you decide on a residential flagpole, consider where and how high it should be. You should inspect the flag from all angles. Is it too high? Are you sure it is hiding behind a shrubbery due to its low height? Find more bonuses something in-between.
Next, choose your flagpole material. Aluminum is the most widely used residential flagpole material because of its strength, durability and low maintenance. Fiberglass is second in popularity due to its glossy gel coating which can withstand most soiling.
You now have the option to choose between an external or internal halyard. You can now raise and lower the flag with the halyard. It’s a rope, or cable, that is threaded through a pulley truck at the top. You can attach external halyards to the pole’s outside. You attach them to the pole using a cable or rope wrapped around a simple clamp at its base. On the inside of the pole is a halyard system. The base has a slot for a handle or winch. If vandalism is an issue, consider using an internal halyard.
You will need to decide on the color of your pole and whether you wish to add custom ornaments, such as a ball or eagle. A finial, ball, or eagle can be added to it.
Dig a hole to install the flag. The hole size will be determined by the size of your flagpole. The hole should then be dug and filled with concrete. Insert the flag into a steel groundleeve. Concrete can corrode many flag materials. Make sure that at least 10% is underground. Ask the manufacturer any questions before proceeding. Most flags will be installed by the manufacturer.
